MinnesotaCare

MinnesotaCare is a health insurance program for Minnesotans with lower incomes who cannot get affordable insurance through their employer and do not qualify for Medical Assistance. For more information on Minnesota Care click here.

Application Information:

Applying online using the MnSure website is the recommended way for applying for a Minnesota Health Care Program (Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare and Advanced Premium Tax Credits).

To qualify, you must:

  • Live in Minnesota 
  • Have income at or below the income limit
  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national, lawfully present or a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) grantee if you are 18 or older (immigration status does not matter for children younger than 18)
  • Not be enrolled in free Medicare Part A or have access to Medicare Part B
  • Not be incarcerated, unless you are awaiting disposition of charges

One-on-one help:

Get free help from an expert in your community. MNsure-certified navigators can walk you through the whole process. They also answer your questions. Find a navigator who speaks your language. You can also call 651-539-2099 or 855-366-7873 for help in your language.

What you may need to apply (verification documents):

  • Social Security Number (SSN) for anyone in your household who has one.
  • Information from immigration documents if you have them.
  • Employer and income information for everyone in your family (for example, from paystubs, W-2 forms, or wage and tax statements).
  • Policy numbers for any current health insurance.
  • Information about any job-related health insurance available to your family

For everyone in the household:

  • Proof of income for the past 30 days such as pay stubs or employer statement 
  • Proof of income from other sources other than work (unemployment, pensions, annuities, dividends or other taxable interest, Social Security, disability payments, worker’s compensation, alimony, and/or rent or royalties.)
